Brew Your Favorite Content with Percolate

October 13, 2011

Percolate

Is your life becoming swamped with feeds? From Twitter to Google Reader, if you’re like me, you have too much content to sift through when you want to catch up on your feed reading. A new social network, called Percolate, can help you sift through those feeds and bubble up the best content.

Percolate aggregates your Twitter and Google Reader feeds and shows you the most interesting links based on your personal preferences. You can tag and comment, and you can follow people on Percolate to see what they’re posting and commenting on.

After checking out Percolate for myself, I have to say it functions very similarly to Google+, or even to a carefully curated Twitter list. I see good content, but it’s mostly because I’ve selected only the most interesting people to follow. However, I see great potential in the ease of sharing the site allows. Once people begin tagging and sharing their favorite content, the consumption process gains a personal twist. Pure, objective content begins to gain a context, based on how the network has engaged with it.

Some people may prefer their feeds straight up, so they can decide for themselves how to frame the issues at hand. But for those who like to know what’s happening in the world – along with what everyone thinks about it – Percolate might become their new social media stomping ground.

How about you? Do you read the comments section after every news article, and do you go on Twitter to see what everyone is saying about current events? Or do you prefer to focus on the articles only and forgo the bias? Talk to us – leave a comment below!
