Building A Business For Longevity With ContactKarma Co-Founders Genevieve Thiers and Dan Ratner

Though some entrepreneurs might be interested in creating a product that could quickly be sold to Google, Microsoft, Twitter or Facebook, building a business can sometimes take a little bit of time. Chicago-based couplepreneurs Genevieve Thiers and Dan Ratner know this as they are currently working on building their third startup together. Their last startup Sittercity, has been growing to world babysitting domination since 2001 as a place for anyone to easily find a babysitter. Their latest endeavor is a social recommendations platform called ContactKarma and offers a platform that helps you find top rated service professionals, contractors, plumbers and more, that your friends have recommended from your existing social network.

The duo took the stage at the Tech Cocktail Startup Mixology Conference in Chicago this past October to share some insights on how they go about building products for the long haul. Genevieve explained:

“We look at our startups like our children.”

Find out how Genevieve and Dan are approaching their third business of what they hope will eventually be ten businesses together in the video (below).

Building to Last is their method for success! Find a pain point that needs morphine and supple an auto drip to solve that problem . Don't stop there but duplicate the process to related target segments (or revenue stream).

It is always a delight to hear Genevieve speak!
