CampusSplash Launches AdmissionSplash Facebook App

The competition for secondary education is enormous in the US. With 2.2 million high school students planning on going to college, matched up with 2400 four year schools in the United States for high school students to choose from, admissions at select schools are becoming more intense than ever. At Harvard alone,  35,000 students are applying this year. That’s a lot of time and money for application fees that many kids are wasting. Enter AdmissionSplash, a new app to help high school kids predict their chances of getting into the schools they are interested in attending.

We covered CampusSplash last week as they demo’d at Tech Cocktail DC’s Winter Mixer event. The startup team, a recent GW grad and a current student, aims to create a network all around Campus life, and has now officially launched their new AdmissionSplash Facebook application.

Here’s the rundown:

  • Students create a college list, enter their academic and demographic information, and get their results. They can share it with their friends or keep it to themselves.
  • The app uses an algorithm the team developed to predict students admissions’ chances from Very Poor to Very Good.
  • Their algorithm was tested using publicly available individual admissions information. Test results were in the 90 – 97% range in terms of accurate predictions.
  • The app currently works for 1500 four year schools and that number is growing.

This app is a first version  -  in-app recruitment options will be coming so students can request more information from the schools they are interested in. CampusSplash plans on also rolling out Law School Edition, Business School Edition, and Medical School Edition and plugging their apps into a future college test preparation application that is also on the way. Watch the video below to see AdmissionSplash in action.

This is a really interesting app. I'll be interested to see how accurate results are over the long-term. I can see test-prep programs and admissions coaches being very interested in getting tied into something like this for advertising or referrals. If it works, it could be both a useful tool for students and for these service providers.

This is pretty cool, especially if it's accurate. Amazing what tools college applicants have these days…
