Congratulations Nick O'Neill on Social Times Being Acquired By WebMediaBrands

Social TimesI just got back from a celebratory dinner for the acquisition of Social Times to WebMediaBrands (NASDAQ:WEBM) known for its mediabistro.com, learnnetwork, freelanceconnect, and semanticweb and more. Social Times is a D.C-based media company focusing on reporting on the social networking news of the Web.

I am extremely happy for Nick O’Neill. Nick was one of the first people I met when I moved to Washington, D.C. from Chicago over three years ago to work for Aol. Before I could settle in Nick reached out and wanted to help bring TECH cocktail to DC. He helped us host our first event TECH cocktail in DC in May 2007. We have now hosted seven events in DC and twelve in Chicago and each continues to grow but I really appreciate Nick reaching out with enthusiasm to help get it started in DC.

Social Times has a couple of properties which include AllFacebook and the New Media School. I contributed early on to AllFacebook as the idea was conceived over dinner in Arlington with Nick.  It was exciting to watch the site grow like a weed as Facebook opened up its application platform and Nick was reporting on its every move. I am also a New Media School instructor which is a more recent offering that looks to educate people online about the latest media trends and topics. So needless to say, I am happy to see these endeavors succeed. Congratulations to Nick on the acquisition, he hustled hard for the last two years to make his dreams of being a webpreneur a reality.
