Smartphones have opened many new channels for mobile communication. In the old days, you could either call your contacts or text them. Today there are endless ways to communicate and even more ways to follow your contacts: email, Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, LinkedIn…and the list goes on.
Contapps, a popular free Android app, helps users manage and follow their contacts in a “people centric” way. The app offers an improved alternative to the default Android contacts. It features Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Foursquare and Google Maps integration to your contact profiles; Facebook sync and birthday notifications; a smart dialer; gesture search capabilities; a contacts widget for quick dialing, and more. The app supports 19 languages with the help of volunteer users who provided the translations.
Based out of Tel Aviv, Contapps was founded by four mobile enthusiasts. Lior Romano, Contapps’ Co-Founder and CEO, tells us that by helping their users to unlock the phone book’s potential, they plan to monetize the app in the future using the premium model. That model still allows users to download the app for free, but they pay extra for additional features.
With more than 400,000 downloads, a 4.3 star rating on the Android Market, and user feedback like “I wish I could give you 6 stars” (when the max is 5), seems like Contapps is on the right track.
