Find Your Friends Quickly with Mobile App Echoecho

Ever been in an airport – say LAX or O’Hare – trying to either find the person you are picking up or your friend who is picking you up – with a constant stream of texts going back and forth?  Or what about meeting someone at Starbucks in a major city, only to find out that they are at the Starbucks 3 blocks away?

With the geo-based mobile app from echoecho, that aggravation is over.  The app allows you to quickly share your location with friends – and find theirs – with your smartphone.  And if you don’t have an iPhone or Droid, no worries – it is available for the Blackberry, Nokia, and soon, Windows 7.

It’s so easy to get going with echoecho, as it is not a social network – there’s no sign up – so you can start using it immediately based on who is in your phone’s address book.

Echoecho has some really cool features that will greatly streamline the whole communication process:

• Meeting Places lets you choose a place to meet your friends – anywhere in the world.
• EchoChat lets you discuss plans with friends following any sharing request.
• WebEcho lets you share your location and find your friends, even if they haven’t downloaded the app.
• Design Overhaul lets you see who from your smartphone’s address book is already using echoecho.

LA-based founder Nick Bicanic has a really interesting background.  He’s a director/producer at Shadow Company, a recipient of Young Nobel Prize at age 15, and has won 4 Leo awards as a film maker.   In a nod to the beauty, simplification, and functionality of the app, his team just raised $750,000 in funding from Google Ventures and PROfounders Capital.  I’d say this is a startup to keep an eye on.
