Funny or Die, the online comedy video site founded by Will Ferrell, released a new video today taking on U.S. financial reform. It’s an All-Star cast, produced by Ron Howard and written by Adam McKay and Al Jean. The video (below) titled Funny or Die’s Presidential Reunion posted by Will Ferrell brings together all the actors who played president on Saturday Night Live, which include Will Ferrell (George W. Bush), Fred Armisen (Barack Obama), Darrell Hammond (Bill Clinton), Chevy Chase (Gerald Ford), Dan Aykroyd (Jimmy Carter), and Dana Carvey (George H. W. Bush). In addition, Jim Carrey makes a guest appearance as Ronald Regan and SNL alum Maya Rudolph (Michelle Obama) is also part of the cast.
The video urges Congress to make a move towards real financial reform and was created in association with Americans for Financial Reform, a coalition of more than 200 national, state and local consumer, labor, investor, civil rights, community, small business and senior citizen organizations. The video will be crossed promoted by the Main Street Brigade, a consumer protection organization.
This is a great example of the power of online video, given all the more fuel by celebrity endorsement. The power of celebrity plus open media tools is undeniably far-reaching and influential. It’s also entertaining - we probably won’t ever see this many former Saturday Night Live stars together in a skit on television.
