GameSkunk – Bringing Four Senses Into Gaming

Serious gamers and occasional participants have this in common – the experience is based on interaction with the senses. What is heard, seen and felt through the controller play a part in the adventure. What has been missing – until now, is the ability to smell the action.

Sensory Acumen’s gaming product GameSkunk and gaMedSkunk is an olfactory feedback system device that delivers scents connected to game play for gaming consoles or PC/Macs.

Sensory Acumen, the company behind the product promises a whole new way of game play. GameSkunk can deliver “the smell of an alien planet, explosions on the battle field, crashes on the race track, and even the sweat of the sport.”  According to a company white paper, GameSkunk v.1.1 is equipped with the delivery mechanism (to dispense the scent), multiple scent cartridges, and an API code that is incorporated in the game code.

gaMedSkunk has a more serious use in games for virtual reality Post Traumatic Stress Disorder therapy. It will be used for the treatment of PTSD in war veterans and enlisted soldiers who have served or are still serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.  The peripheral device is applicable for all genres, including education and edutainment.

Sensory Acumen was founded in 2006 on electrical engineering expertise, with members having past experience in consumer electronics.

The team from Sensory Acumen was on hand at the Tech Cocktail Innovation Showcase at the CES Tweetup last night at the Space Quest Lounge, Las Vegas Hilton.
