Get-A-Game App Helps You Find Pickup Games

September 21, 2011

Get-A-Game

Have you ever wanted to play baseball, softball, basketball, football, or any other team sport, but didn’t have enough people to get a full-on game together? I have. It’s frustrating to have the energy to want to play a game and not be able to actually play one. The New York-based company Tomato Lightning is looking to solve this problem with its recently released iPhone app called Get-A-Game.

Get-A-Game offers users a way to broadcast their intention of playing a sport or game and helps them find people in the area that might be interested in joining the game. The app also offers a way to manage a team of players directly from your phone. You can publish game information to members of your team via email. Teammates receive a message from you informing them of the sport, place, start time, end time, plus a customizable message and map location link so they can easily find you. This could come in handy for team captains looking for an easy way to manage their softball league communications.

Since the application just launched, it does not have enough traction in my area to find a pickup game. So I’ll have to test it out in a dense city like New York to see if it can offer better results. That said, I definitely see the value in the application as I’d like to be able to find a random pickup game in my neighborhood that fits in nicely with my busy schedule, rather than commit to an entire season with a particular league. It might also make sense for the app to pull in some of my other social networks like Facebook and Twitter to help better organize with people I know.

The Get-A-Game app offers the service for free to users with the bigger mission of helping them lead an active, healthy lifestyle. The team will be on hand in New York City as a showcased startup at our mixer event at General Assembly on September 21st.
