Network Solutions Mocks Go Daddy With Parody For Super Bowl

Super Bowl commercials are a hot topic these days as excitement builds up to Super Sunday tomorrow. Earlier this week we received a hot tip about Eminem and Brisk teaming for a Super Bowl commercial.  To prepare you for that and a number of other Super Bowl commercials, Network Solutions released a parody video going after the annual Go Daddy Super Bowl commercials – which usually contain scantily clad women.

What’s a Granny got to do with helping small businesses get online?

I don’t know – but what’s a tight tee and leather hot-pants got to do with it either? We’ve all seen the scantily dressed women in the Go Daddy commercials, especially raunchy for The Big Game. And from we can gather, they’re gearing up to unveil yet another. But in the Network Solutions video, Granny, played by Academy Award Winning Cloris Leachman, plays the once-young and hot Go Daddy girl awaiting the call for another shot at a Super Bowl commercial, illustrating that when that inevitable act of aging kicks in, it’s more Go Granny than Go Daddy.

Lisa Stone, Co-founder and CEO of BlogHer Inc. is also in the video, endorsing Network Solutions, who participated in the BlogHer tour when it came to Washington, D.C. While Leachman is entertaining, the partnership with BlogHer seems particularly valuable as Stone grows the largest community of women bloggers online.

This video parody is only the beginning as Go Granny will highlight her wild escapades during her youth with celebrities and social media influencers alike on Twitter. Just follow the hashtag #GoGranny, and her Twitter handle @Go_Granny on Sunday, February 6th at 3 pm EST and it should make you smile.

Check out the Go Granny video parody that launched yesterday (below).

  1. Lisa Byrne says:

    Sweet! Love me some #GoGranny!

  2. Thanks for posting about our mockumentary of our competitor's Super Bowl ads. We think Cloris Leachman and Lisa Stone of BlogHer did a great job of giving our customers a laugh, yet connecting our services to their real world business goals. A well crafted YouTube video plus social media can be a viable alternative to the big spend of a Super Bowl ad or other large outlay.

  3. Jon at Geotrust says:

Really funny stuff. I think that given who GoDaddy's new "girl" is, too, the video takes on a whole new resonance. Cloris > Betty White any day.

At GeoTrust we developed our own GoDaddy parody that similarly pokes fun at their image but from a different angle (eg, what the heck do sexy women have to do with domain names?). Check it out here: http://bit.ly/switchdaddy
