Google+ Launches First Part Of Developer API

Google+ has been the talk of the summer. It’s been attracting new users at a record pace – all without the help of outside developers.
Today, Google announced in a blog post that they have launched the first Google+ developer API. While this is only the first part of the Google+ API, it is still a big move for the platform, as developer APIs are what helped Twitter gain traction and make its way into a number of different products rather quickly. So let’s take a closer look at what this new Google+ API will have to offer:
- Read-only access
- Public data only
- All API calls require OAuth 2.0 or an API key
- Resources returned from the API will come to you in a JSON format
Ok that was a lot of developer lingo, but what it means in a nutshell is that Google+ is starting with only public data, so it’s going to be easy to sign up and get started with the API. It also means we will start seeing more products being developed with Google+ integration. There may even be some new platforms developed just for Google+. It’s all up to the creativity of the developers and product development teams – the web is your canvas.
