Groupon Acquires Obtiva: Beefs Up Ruby on Rails Development Team

August 4, 2011

groupon + obtiva = grouptiva

It is extremely competitive right now between a number of venture backed startups for solid talent across the country. Groupon just announced today they have beefed up its development team by acquiring Obtiva, the largest agile Ruby on Rails development shop in Chicago.

Groupon has been working with Obtiva since 2009, when Groupon had just a handful of engineers. So Groupon decided to make it official and as they put in on the Groupon blog:

“We decided to stop living in sin and tie the knot.”

While this acquisition does not get Groupon additional real estate in the daily deals land grab with LivingSocial, it does help grow the Groupon team. That said, Groupon, of course, is still hiring engineers.
