TECH cocktail 1: Wrap & Thank You
July 7, 2006
Thank you to everyone who came out to make TECH cocktail a success. We had over 225 guests, some of which were from Google, Playboy, Orbitz, Cars.com, Apartments.com, Yahoo, Tribune and a number of other Midwest-based companies.
Special thank you to our sponsor midPhase hosting, State Restaurant and Café for the fabulous venue and Stormhoek the featured wine of the event. If you are interested in sponsoring the next TECH cocktail be sure to email Frank Gruber or Eric Olson.
Thank you to the Chicago-based companies that performed demonstrations: ZapTix, FeedBurner, TableTop Interactive. They all have unique products and stories so we are happy they were able to share them with the group. RipIt Digital, Naymz, ChicagoCrime.org, Gritwire, Coastr, Planyp.us and skinnyCorp were also represented at the event.
You can check out some TECH cocktail photos here. We had a number of photographers and bloggers in attendance and we thank you - be sure to tag your blog posts and photos: TECHcocktail1.
Finally, thank you to everyone that helped out with the event - we could not have done it without you. We hope you now feel like you have made some new connections with people with similar interests living in the same geographic area.
Be sure to check back for the next TECH cocktail event - details coming soon. Oh, and be sure to Digg this post here.

First TECH cocktail Filled With Spirit…
The first TECH cocktail was a wonderful evening filled with the conversations, wine and fun. Over 225 of the Midwest’s finest showed up unite the tech and business community. Thank you to midPhase for sponsoring the first TECH cocktail event….
Hey, Frank. Yes, an awesome event. Thank you! I’m sure technorati and blogsearch will find this anyway at some point, but I posted some comments here on the TECHcoffee blog: http://techcoffee.infogami.com/blog/techcocktail
Cheers!
Thanks for putting together the event guys! Right place, right time, right people. It was a good time. I am definitely looking forward to TECH cocktail 2.
[…] Last night I made the trek last night to the inaugural TECHcocktail event in Chicago. For being such a big city, there never has seemed to be any sort of techy/webby/bloggy community that I was ever able to find. If you go back to the early years of marusin.com (we’re talking 2001ish ~ too lazy to link right now), you’d often here me whine and complain about this (I really used to be a whiner back then, looking back. Sorry about that…). […]
The event was great. Well done Frank and Eric! Despite Chicago’s tech/startup scene being smaller than in Silicon Valley, there is a huge demand for events like TECHcocktail. I look forward to helping with the next event.

Frank & Eric, I can only agree with all the other comments- great event. Unpretentious mixer, good folks all around.
Thanks for the invitation. It was a great event. Let me know how I can help on the next one.
Thanks for putting the event together. Had a great time!
[…] Last night I attended the first TECHCocktail event in Chicago. The Stormhoek wine was flowing free (as in speech & beer), as geeks, nerds, hackers, coders, entrepreneurs, journalists, vcs, bloggers, and all sorts of other netizens mingled. The event was sponsored by Feedburner, and a couple other local companies. It’s great to see these kind of events because they show that Chicago is not just a technologically boring city. We have several really good schools in the area (U of I, Northwestern) and there’s no reason we can’t have a startup scene as hot as silicon valley. It’s events like these that are pushing in the right direction for this to happen. I look forward to the next one! Posted by skwp Filed in thoughts […]

When’s the next one? Sounds like this should be a regular event - as I’m sure you realize, it is the monthly repetition of bringing the tech community together that yields momentum and results.
Though I’m on the West Coast, I’d love to time a visit home with your next social (hoping you’re aiming to make it happen again!)
