Upcoming Event: Barcamp DC
November 10, 2009
Reading time: 2 – 3 minutes
This weekend many members of the local DC tech community will be venturing out to join each other for the third iteration of Barcamp DC. For those of you not in the know about these things
Barcamp is the prototypical “un-conference”
BarCamp DC is an ad-hoc unconference and is part of the larger BarCamp movement. While there are topics suggested for discussion, there is no set agenda until everyone gathers. Attendees are required to participate to some degree: either by leading a discussion, showing a demo, or by creating another type of collaborative session.
These types of conferences are great fun and bring together so many great people. The discussions are passionate and deep. Since the agenda is decided upon by the attendees, the topics are truly what people want to talk, hear, and learn about. This year, according to the Barcamp DC web registration site, there are three fantastic rule:
- NO POWERPOINT SLIDES !
- BE PASSIONATE ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT
- NO TWITTER REFERENCES – This is great. Each time you reference Twitter in a session you will have to contribute $1 as a common donation to the Capital Area Food Bank. Feel free to abuse this rule – one dollar can serve 5 meals!
