My friend Dave Schappel (not the comedian) has been building up his latest company, TeachStreet, over the past year and I was happy to hear from him that the Chicago portion of the site is now live. TeachStreet is a place where people can come to find teachers for anything and everything that are based in their city. Want to learn drums? Check out TeachStreet. Want to learn Mandarin? There are probably some teachers on TeachStreet that can help you out. If there is something you want to learn, check out TeachStreet.

Chicago Public Schools Needs Our Help
April 16, 2009
Reading time: 2 - 2 minutes
Please give this post a read. It is very important that we (i.e. the Chicago tech community) rally to help Chicago Public Schools with their tech efforts and show our support. CPS needs some help with donations of goods, services and/or cash to get their TECHxpo 2009 project ready to rock. I know there are some individuals and companies out there who, even in these tough times, can still help with this effort. Let’s see if we can’t help CPS out and show that the TECH cocktail community can rally. If you and/or your company can donate some cash or tech goods please contact me (eric [at] techcocktail [dot] com) to get the ball rolling.
Now, I turn this post over to CPS’ own David Schwab to explain the program and how to get involved:
Chicago Public Schools students are getting ready to flex their tech muscles in a major way … but they may need your help!
The kick-off celebration for "TECHxpo 2009" will take place on May 29th at the Museum of Contemporary Art . Five other events follow in the first week of June.
The schools, with support from the CPS Office of Academic Enhancement, have been working all year on the Adobe Youth Voices project. This project teaches students to use high-tech software and hardware to learn and report about complex social and community issues. The events will feature "cubes" of student work, showcasing their finished videos and presentations, along with documentation of their work on the projects throughout the year.
