May 16, 2008

THREADLEMANSS by Threadless.com

Saturday… Saturday … Saturday! Start your engines as Threadless.com, a Chicago-based skinnyCorp operated company and TECH cocktail supporter, will be hosting a Pine Wood Derby race called the THREADLEMANSS. Unfortunately, Eric and I won’t be able to attend as we are pretty busy right now getting ready for TECH cocktail CONFERENCE (did you sign up yet?!). But thanks to twitter we found out that TECH cocktailer Carlos Pero of coloring.com has a son that was recently undefeated in his Cub Scouts Pine Wood Derby. We leverage the power of twitter technology (follow techcocktail on twitter) to see if Carlos would like to lead the TECH cocktail RACING effort and thankfully he accepted.

Carlos is featured this week on episode 25 of SOMEWHAT FRANK TV video (below) as he previews our TECH cocktail RACING car and shares some Pine Wood Derby knowledge. Thank you Carlos for your help and good luck on Saturday! You can cheer on the TECH cocktail car this Saturday, May 17, 2008 as Threadless will be streaming the derby live.

Video: TECH cocktail Accepts CityLIGHTS Award (A Somewhat Frank Take)

April 6, 2008

Re-syndicated from SOMEWHAT FRANK

TECH cocktail Wins CityLIGHTS AwardThe Illinois I.T. Association CityLIGHTS 2008 Awards Gala took place in Chicago, Illinois on Thursday, April 3, 2008. The event was held at Union Station which you might recognize from the epic scene from the movie The Untouchables where Kevin Costner saves a baby carriage while also shooting up the Al Capone gangsters on its marble steps. While we did not save any babies, TECH cocktail was nominated for the CityLIGHTS Award for its positive impact in connecting the Illinois technology community. I am please to report, that TECH cocktail took home the hardware. I was deeply humbled by winning the award as it serves as validation that all the long hours and hard work is truly helping to sculpt a better connected local technology community while helping to amplify that same community to the world.

Eric and I were both unprepared for winning the award as we were up against some stiff competition. But we one of our supporters was able to capture the moment on video and I have used for the episode 19 of the video podcast SOMEWHAT FRANK TV.  I have included the video below for your viewing pleasure. Thank you to everyone that has supported TECH cocktail over the past two years. We could not have done what we have without your support - thank you. Also we not done with what we have started as we look to continue to work to help the local technology communities and startups. If you have not already you should be sure to sign up for the TECH cocktail CONFERENCE on May 29th in Chicago as it should be a great event to further help anyone in business with taking a "no nonsense" approach. Use the promo code: techcocktailers to save $25 on your ticket. Sign up today.

Bring CES To Chicago

January 10, 2008

ChicagoCES, the largest consumer electronic trade show, is taking place this week in Las Vegas. It was reported by an NBC affiliate today that CES may be leaving Las Vegas! Yes, just like the movie title. Thanks to our friend Blagica Stefanovski on giving us the heads up on this one. We thought it would be great if we could help bring CES to Chicago. Why not? Chicago is a world class city with the facilitates to host a huge event like the World Fair or Olympic games. Not to mention Chicago has lots of tech companies. So we have decided to help initiate the ‘Bring CES to Chicago’ movement. If you are interested in supporting the cause let us know in the comments below or email us directly. Also join the Bring CES to Chicago group on Facebook.

We think lot of groups including folks in the Mayor’s Office, the ITA, the CEC, World Business Chicago, etc will need to rally around the idea of bringing CES to Chicago. So we wanted to kickstart bringing everyone together in an effort to make CES in Chicago a reality.

Eric Olson and I just did a quick BlogTV video episode video discussing bringing CES to Chicago (below). Admittedly, the video is a little choppy since I was on the west coast and Eric was in the east so bear with us. We will be working out the kinks in upcoming video episodes.

TECH cocktail Photos Bump With Animoto

August 21, 2007

AnimotoI recently discovered a new application called Animoto that converts photos into a short length video. I pulled in some previous TECH cocktail photos and created this video which highlights some of the events, fast cars and bling that makes up a TECH cocktail. Ok, ok, I am just kidding about the fast cars and bling but Animoto did bring the TECH cocktail photos to life. Check out the video titled TECH cocktail Bumps & Blings (below).
