Intel To Launch New Processor and Streaming Movie Service

With the 2011 Consumer Electronic Show just a few days away, Intel is gearing up for a few launch announcements. I plan to be there to see them live, but it appears the cat is already out of the bag as it was reported today that Intel will be launching a new core processor and a video syncing technology called Intel Insider. Intel Insider will enable the streaming of 1080p video content to you television. The WSJ also reported on the link of the new Intel chip to Hollywood.

Here are the highlights from the press release which was dated January 5th:

  • Intel Corporation introduced its game-changing 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ processor family
  • New features include Intel® Insider™, Intel® Quick Sync Video, and a new version of the company’s award-winning Intel® Wireless Display (WiDi), which now adds 1080p HD and content protection for those wishing to beam premium HD content from their laptop screen to their TV
  • The company also revealed arrangements with CinemaNow*, Dixons Retail plc*, Hungama* Digital Media Entertainment, Image Entertainment*, Sonic Solutions*, and Warner Bros. Digital Distribution*

I’ve worked with Intel for the past three years now in a program that was formerly called the Intel Insider program. We changed our name to Intel Advisors a month or so ago so I knew something was on its way bearing our old name. I’ll be at CES again this year and attending a number of Intel events and press announcements, so I’ll be sure to share any additional details I come across while at the show.
