Want to join the engineering team over at LivingSocial? Here’s your shot.
The Hungry Academy, created by the people at LivingSocial and JumpstartLab, is a 5 month engineer training academy ”that will challenge [participants] and push [them] to their limits.”
Two dozen applicants will be selected to take part in this unique program, and along the way they will learn the necessary skills and work ethic required to become a member of the exclusive LivingSocial team. Those who make it through the grueling process will be offered a position with the DC-based deal-of-the-day startup. Although be warned – Hungry Academy is not for the faint of heart. LivingSocial Co-Founder and CTO Aaron Batalion doesn’t expect all participants to see graduation day.
Selected applicants will go through a three rotation program and will spend approximately 50 days doing each of the following: learning in a classroom setting, working on team projects, and giving back to the community through education and open source contributions. The sessions will be led by Jeff Casimir and the rest of his team at JumpstartLab, the DC-based web development training organization.
The Hungry Academy is of mutual benefit to participants and LivingSocial alike. Members of the academy will not only “learn how to build successful products using software development tools, like Ruby on Rails,” but will be paid for their time as well. From LivingSocial’s standpoint, the academy is essentially trial run for prospective employees. They know exactly what they’re getting in a particular candidate. Win, win.
If you think you’ve got what it takes to make it through Hungry Academy, the deadline for applications is January 9th, so don’t delay.
