Matt Mullenweg On WordPress Powering The Web

WordPress is a platform that started as a blog platform but now powers close to 13 percent of websites on the Internet. This is a pretty amazing statistic as WordPress started out very much an underdog when it launched with such blog platform competition as Blogger, Moveable Type and LiveJournal already taking care of most of the blogging market. WordPress was able to leverage open source methods to build a community of developers and supporters and ultimately shape the platform into something that can be used not only for blogs but for regular websites as well, ranging from a super-simple webpage to a sophisticated CMS for publishers.

We had a chance to catch up with WordPress CEO and Founder Matt Mullenweg at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas. Matt shared where he draws some of his inspirations from, as well as his thoughts on WordPress and the future of the Web. Check out the video below with Matt Mullenweg as part of the Tech Cocktail Delivering Happiness at SXSW video interview series.
