Manage Information Overload with metaLayer

November 17, 2011

metaLayer

DC-based metaLayer is offering a way to help organizations and individuals find what’s buried in their world of files and conversations. Say goodbye to big data problems – the startup’s suite of products visually manages images and text to help you deal with data overload on your own terms.

The metaLayer Dashboard is a new way to manipulate and visualize data of all types. It takes all the pain out of making complex workloads and mashups of all your information, doing all the heavy lifting for you so you can focus on results and actionable information. With the Dashboard, users can perform complex algorithmic analysis in seconds.

Being called the “PhotoShop of data,” the Dashboard app allows you to drag and drop data sets with ease. It’s an incredibly intuitive experience, simplifying the process of organizing big, real-time data and adding layers of context to collections and streams of information.

“The amount of information you’re creating as an individual – across social networks, on your computers and mobile devices – is exploding,” says co-founder Matthew Griffiths. “Our metaLayer search app is like having a private Google to search your world of conversations.”

MetaLayer also offers API products for businesses and developers. If you’ve ever had to search through a hefty archive of photos to find a specific object and had to deal with the photos being tagged improperly, metaLayer has an API for that. The company’s imgLayer makes photos actionable.

The startup’s suite of products is ideal for researchers, analysts and journalists who want to compare data sets without years of traditional statistical training. (You can watch a series of podcasts, tutorials, and walkthroughs of the metaLayer suite here.)

With a background in intelligence and disaster response, Griffiths and co-founder Jonathan Gosier began metaLayer out of an open source project. The team was recently a part of DreamIt Venture‘s 2011 Philly class and a featured startup at DCWEEK’s Tech Cocktail DC mixer.
