As the market for mobile applications and platforms continues to expand in breadth and depth, consumers are faced with weeding through the masses to find the best apps for them and their devices. The iTunes application store alone has already ballooned to over 150,000 titles, while thousands of new apps are available for the Blackberry, Droid, and other devices.
Mobspot, a new mobile application discovery service from Portland, Ore., can help you sort through the universe of apps and zero in on the ones that best meet your needs.
Mobspot helps with discovery and recommendations, making it possible to share and learn about new apps from your friends and trusted networks, rather than anonymous reviews. This new service makes it easy to explore apps, reviews, and ratings, as well as questions from people in your network. Integration with Facebook and Twitter makes that connection even easier and allows you to connect with a broader network of people who might share your interests.

Personalization is key to Mobspot, so setting your phone type is important for finding the right programs. But you can also search, sort and download apps for different types of phones – which is useful when you want to help friends or family members who have different devices.

From the Mobspot team:
We believe it’s important to make Mobspot an open platform for all, and provide access to applications to as many people in the world as possible. We encourage you to check out the site, discover new apps, translate the site to your language, get involved, and spread the word.
Mobspot was among the many startups showcased at the TECH cocktail SXSW: Blackout Sunday event, presented by Microsoft BizSpark and Volusion. Mobspot was a finalist in the 2010 SXSW Accelerator program.
