MyBlogLogI was reading Marshall Kirkpatrick’s post at the ReadWriteWeb about the impending demise of a blogger’s favorite community tool MyBlogLog. I have been using this tool MyBlogLog since 2007 and it used to give you a very personal glimpse of other MyBlogLog users who visited your website or Blog. Yahoo! has not officially confirmed it but there is a post on the Yahoo! Developer blog from Chris Yeh who says on the post:

“Frankly, it’s no secret within Yahoo! that we’re actively discussing the future of MyBlogLog. However, it’s also true that we have not made any final decisions at this point.”

What did MyBlogLog do for its users :

  • Your blog visitors could join your Blog community and share content.
  • You got analytics not only visitors but where they went from your Blog.
  • You could welcome your readers personally if they belonged to the MyBlogLog community.

I agree with Marshall Kirkpatrick that had Yahoo! wanted they could have used the information collected by MyBloglog and provided more community widgets or tools to the users. As a business strategy Yahoo! has been shedding what it calls non core services. I for one will be sad to see MyBlogLog go. My other favorite Yahoo! communities/tools are photo sharing tool Flickr and social bookmarking tool Delicious

I am looking forward to reporting more news about MBlogLog. Did you use it for your web site or Blog? What do you think of R.I.P MyBlogLog?

This website uses IntenseDebate comments, but they are not currently loaded because either your browser doesn't support JavaScript, or they didn't load fast enough.

Unfortunately, I suspect this is only the beginning as the Bing/Yahoo deal goes through. Those of us in the SEO community are already expecting to lose Yahoo Site Explorer soon, and Yahoo PPC services will be taken over by Microsoft later in 2010, if they clear regulatory hurdles. Sadly, we may lose a lot of good Yahoo-owned services.
