Apps that are focused on social sharing, search, and recommendations, especially in the food and dining space, have been popping up left and right like crazy this year. Ness brings all of those features together into one app for the iPhone and iPod Touch.
This first iteration is for restaurants only, but they will be expanding to include music, shopping, nightlife, and entertainment – and it will all be housed within the same app.
Like any recommendation engine, results are tailored to your preferences, and content is pulled from your friends, not strangers. The more you use it, the better the recommendations.
Here’s why it’s going to be better than any other recommendation app: It is driven by mobile and social data pulled from your taste profile, similarity to other users, the total popularity of each restaurant, and trusted recommendations from friends on third-party services like Facebook and Foursquare. As Corey Reese, CEO and Co-Founder, said, “The future of search lies in anticipating the wants of the consumer and delivering intelligent, personally relevant results.”
I am in NYC for 5 days, so I am going to give it a whirl while I am here. If you use it this week, drop a comment in the box below and let me know you how like it.
