Nulu’s Personalized Twist on Learning a New Language

December 10, 2011

Immersion is the way to go in learning a new language – but if you’re past the period of being an exchange student or can’t pick up and leave your life for months at a time to live in another country, you’ll need to find a new route to proficiency.

Sure, there are a lot of great tools of varying expense on the market to help teach you. The problem with them is that they are often, well, boring. This is the problem San Diego-based startup and recent Tech Cocktail San Diego Winter Mixer attendee Nulu aims to address.

Founder Eitan “Ace” Geft has spent almost the last ten years teaching English to students of all levels and ages in the U.S. and Asia. He has given lots of people lots of laughs, but now he’s got something better for them: a uniquely sustainable language-learning solution.

Nulu doesn’t replace a formalized language program; it’s a supplemental tool to keep you engaged every day with interesting, relevant content. Nulu converts news articles the user is interested in (Tech Cocktail en Español?) into high-quality training material to improve your skills.

Nulu is revolutionizing the way foreign languages are learned. Most people using popular programs like Rosetta Stone quit long before they achieve meaningful proficiency because the content is “canned” and boring. It doesn’t have to be that way. Nulu uses fresh news articles as a personalized “textbook” in order to make learning a foreign language as enjoyable and engaging as possible.

Nulu has two audiences – students of foreign languages and those who teach.  You can sign up on their website for launch information – and look forward to learning – or improving – your foreign language skills.
