Create An Online Tribute for Mother’s Day

Public Service Announcement: Mothers Day is right around the corner. Sunday, May 9th to be exact. Set a reminder on your mobile device now.

My mother and I have over 600 miles between us which makes it a challenge for me every year. Do I send flowers, a gift certificate, jewelry? Celebrate the next time I visit home? How do you express your gratitude to your mother?

This year, my gift will be a personally created “heartspace” and a donation in my mother’s name that will help another momma who is even further away. In her village in Arusha, Tanzania, Mama Lucy (@MamaLucy on Twitter) is literally a mother to an entire school that she envisioned and built using money she made selling chickens as seed capital. Serving over 400 children, the school is already one of the top-ranked primary schools in her region. All because of one woman’s vision and fortitude along with the assistance of an organization called Epic Change who helped generate thousands of donations via various social media efforts.

I started learning at this school since I was six years old; Now I am 12. Mama Lucy is a founder of our school Shepherds Junior. She is a hard-working mama. She is kind. She loves us and I love her very much. – Nihad, a student echoing the sentiments of her fellow classmates.

Mama Lucy has another dream – to build a home on campus for in-need children to live, including some of the TwitterKids of Tanzania. This Mother’s Day, as you think about the special mama’s in your life, consider doing two things:

1. Create your own heartspace. The donation to create your heartspace will go directly to Mama Lucy’s real-life heartspace – a children’s home in Arusha, Tanzania.

2. Post your special creation to your blog, Facebook, Twitter, etc. encouraging others to create theirs as well. This is a chance to make a real difference in the world for our next generation.

Take some time to enjoy some of the creative and beautiful heartspaces that others have made – it’s really a beautiful, global tribute to mothers around the world.

You bet! I loved creating a heartspace and I think it's a total win-win-win (highlighting and supporting 2 moms at once while also coming up with a unique, home-made gift!) Oh – and it's "green" -no paper card to throw away! Another bonus ;)
