Listen Up: Pocket-Sized Bluetooth Speaker for Your Car and Bike

August 13, 2011

Fox Sound Matters

Every morning when I hit the local rail trail, I see tons of cyclists and runners with ear buds plugged into their iPods.  I am sure if I belonged to a gym, I’d see the same set up on the people hitting the ellipticals, tread mills, and bikes.  If you’re a consummate multi-tasker, you probably have your smart phone on you too so you can take and make calls.  Now there’s an alternative to juggling so many gadgets, whether are you are cycling or in your car.

Soundmatters, a company that makes high-quality, portable speakers, has released a pocket-sized Bluetooth speaker called the foxLTMv2.  You can use the foxL’s wireless speakerphone to answer calls or listen to tunes while driving or cycling – all you have to do is install new mounts designed by ProClip, which actually work with all foxL and foxLv2 speaker models.

Priced at approximately $65 for the foxL Vehicle Bracket Mounting System and $49.95 for the foxL Universal Bicycle Mount, the products are immediately available for purchase exclusively from Soundmatters.  The foxLv2 Bluetooth hi-fi speaker is also available, sold separately, priced at $199.

If you are really into music (like me) and not familiar with Soundmatters (ditto), here’s a little background on them: The company was founded in 1998 by physicist, former NASA engineer, and audio design legend Dr. Godehard Guenther.  He has introduced many firsts to the audio market, including the world’s first in-wall speaker and first complete digital time-delay system for surround sound.  Pretty cool!

Looks very similar to the Jawbone Jambox, but with a less streamlined design. I'll stick to the BoomBotix BB2 speaker which offers the same functions for a third of the price. I got my BoomBotix speaker for $65 off their website.
