My DVR changed my life–or at least my downtime. In my pre-DVR days, I missed all the cool shows and ended up watching marginal television when I finally got home to relax. Not anymore. My DVR anxiously awaits the next seasons of “Dexter” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” I can record an early morning Wimbledon match on Saturday and still sleep late, and I never miss a new episode of “Portlandia,” even though it occupies the same block of time I usually devote to catching up with friends on Friday nights.
PlayLater, created by MediaMall Technologies, is taking the on-demand concept to online video so you can record your favorite TV shows, movies, and sports events from nearly any website and watch them later, even offline.
PlayLater brings the functionality and convenience of your standard DVR to online videos. Tell PlayLater which shows you want to record, and just like your home DVR, PlayLater will record it and let you watch when it’s convenient for you. You can queue up a bunch of shows or movies to record, so you never run out of new content to watch. You can watch your PlayLater recorded videos anytime you want on your PC, but if your PC is connected to your TV, you can easily watch your recorded content on your TV too.
When used with the company’s PlayOn software, recorded programming can be watched on an iPad, iPhone, or other mobile device. PlayOn allows people to watch TV shows and movies form Hulu, YouTube, Netflix, and other services on TVs, streaming content from Windows PCs directly to consoles such as the Wii, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.
PlayLater works with any PC and costs $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year. Beta users will receive a full one-month free trial. To be one of the first 5,000 users in the closed beta and get PlayLater free for a month, download here http://www.playlater.tv
