Share Goods and Skills Using NeighborGoods

Did you know that the average power drill gets used for approximately 12 minutes in its entire lifetime? Or how about the fact that 80% of the stuff we own gets used less than once per month? Americans own so much junk that we spend $22 billion a year on storage space. There is a huge opportunity to connect all this excess inventory with people you need it, and an LA-based startup has set out to do just that.
Before you run over to Home Depot to buy a tool you just need for one project, check out NeighborGoods, which we first wrote about in March when they were one of our showcased startups at our SXSW Accelerator Kickoff. Their website connects neighbors who want to share goods and skills, thus enabling users to save money, live more sustainably, and strengthen their local community.
A lot has been going on for NeighborGoods since last March. They won the Best Bootstrapped Startup Award in the Microsoft Bizspark Startup Competition at SXSW 2011, Adage included them in their list of 8 startups to love for 2011, and Fast Company recently included them in an article about the emerging sharing economy.
Clearly, NeighborGoods is a startup to watch, so be sure to meet the team at Tech Cocktail Los Angeles tonight, where they are one of our showcased startups.
