Mailing List Sign Up Made Easy with Shotput

Signing up for a mailing list while at an event is usually a clunky process. It’s either super old school—you write your email address on a piece of paper—or just regular old school—enter your name and email address on an iPad or in an Excel spreadsheet on someone’s laptop.
Ditch the iPad, laptop, pen and paper, and start using Shotput, a service that allows people to sign up for your mailing list through text message. This one-month old startup has not only made it faster and easier for the people who are signing up, but also for the company, band, or nonprofit. All of the email addresses are aggregated into an easy-to-use format.
It is very easy to set up. Register your list by texting your email address to Shotput at 201-591-7468. Then send a text with the hashtag you would like to register. Subscribers can text their email address first and then the hashtag to subscribe.
Shotput was founded on the StartupBus, which ferries a collection of entrepreneurs from Chicago to SXSW. Along the way, they compete against each other to build the best startup before disembarking in Austin.
