Sony Releases 2 New High-Tech, Ultra-Light Cameras

If you are really into photography, chances are pretty good that you heard about Sony’s launch last summer of the small, powerful NEX-3 and NEX-5 cameras that use groundbreaking Alpha Translucent Mirror Technology.  This technology allows you to shoot at high speeds with super fast auto-focus capabilities that work for both still photos and video.

Yesterday Sony announced that they’re adding 2 new models to the Alpha line of DSLR cameras: the NEX-C3 is replacing the NEX-3, while the SLT-A35 is all new.

Here’s the technical breakdown:

The NEX-C3 is the smallest and lightest (it weighs just half a pound!) interchangeable lens digital camera to include a large APS-C size sensor. The camera also includes new Exmor™ APS HD CMOS sensor and BIONZ® processors for higher quality pictures. Photos are 16.2 megapixels; video is 720p HD.  It will be available in August for $649 (with a 18-55mm kit zoom lens) in silver, black and pink.  You can also get it in black with a small 16 mm f/2.8 kit lens for $599.

While this camera is already pretty cool, it also comes with a user interface that allows you to add creative effects directly to photos on the camera. But that’s not all!  There is a “Picture Effects” setting in the camera, giving you the option to add retro elements, pop color, contrast and more.

The SLT-A35 adds tele-zoom to its high speed shooting capabilities at up to 7 fps.  It also includes 16.2 megapixel Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor and a BIONZ processor for higher resolution images and better low light functionality.  The A35 will also be available in August with an 18-55mm kit zoom lens for $699, or body only for $599.

While this camera doesn’t have all the creative effects of the NEX C-3, it will have 11 “Picture Effects” settings.
