The Social Network Snags 8 Oscar Nominations

This morning, the Academy of Motion Pictures announced the nominations for the 83^rd Academy Awards, and, as expected, The Social Network was nominated in several categories.  We absolutely loved the movie (see Frank’s review), so we are looking forward to seeing if The Social Network can overthrow The King’s Speech, which has generated equally ardent fans and positive reviews.  (Personally, I’ll take—sigh—Colin Firth, aka, the one and only Mr. Darcy, over Jesse Eisenberg any day).

It will be a very close Oscars race between the two movies, especially because The King’s Speech won the Producers Guild of American Awards top prize, and that winner usually claims the best picture prize at the Oscars.  However, at the Golden Globe awards last week, The Social Network won for Best Picture (in the drama category), Screenplay (Aaron Sorkin), Score (Trent Reznor), and Director (David Fincher).  You’ll see those categories repeated below.

We’ll have to wait til February 27 to see who triumphs!  Do you think either movie will sweep the Oscars?
