Vibes Media Acquires Zeep Mobile

Owning your own SMS mobile messaging platform and shortcode can be expensive. That is where Irvine, California startup Zeep Mobile comes in handy as they offer a self-service mobile advertising network which includes “a free SMS API” enabling developers to send free SMS messages as long as Zeep inserts an ad. Today Vibes Media, a Chicago-based startup, acquired Zeep Mobile for an undisclosed amount as it looks to further integrate Zeep Mobile’s technology into the Vibes platform. Zeep’s apparently had 10,000 developers using the service and they will also be integrated into Vibes. Zeep President and CEO Scott Robertson will relocate to Vibes’ headquarters in Chicago along with the engineering team currently located in Vancouver Canada. Robertson spoke highly of Vibes and the future saying:

“It’s the ideal home for propelling our unique platform to new possibilities as we work to realize Vibes’ aggressive growth trajectory.”

I admire Zeep Mobile’s approach in attracting a solid developer community by offering a free SMS API and I hope they continue to offer the API so that application developers continue to have an free SMS option. I also wish Zeep and Vibes the best as they look to take the mobile marketing and advertising space from the Windy City.
