Help Keep Wikipedia Free

Jimmy Wales, founder of Wikipedia, wants you to know that as a volunteer he doesn’t get paid a cent and neither do the thousands of volunteer collaborators that help run the site.

In a post on the WikiMedia Foundation website, Wales makes a plea to users to keep Wikipedia free from advertising dollars and consider making a donation to the website.

From the post, Wales notes:

“Commerce is fine. Advertising is not evil. But it doesn’t belong here. Not in Wikipedia.

Wikipedia is something special. It is like a library or a public park. It is like a temple for the mind. It is a place we can all go to think, to learn, to share our knowledge with others. It is a unique human project, the first of its kind in history. It is a humanitarian project to bring a free encyclopedia to every single person on the planet.”

Wikipedia has a worldwide audience of 400 million users. To date, $15.2 million has been raised toward a $16 million goal.

Today is the last day to make a tax-deductible donation for 2010. To donate any amount, click here: http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Keep_Wikipedia_Free

  1. In this highly commercial place we call the world wide web, it is a miracle that wikipedia, the foremost information source online, is able to keep ad free. Come on guys, every little contribution will help.

Wikipedia sucks. They intentionally censored out the fact that NH AG cum U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte believes she can threaten to arrest which reporters she does not like at publicly-advertised political rallies held on commercial property subject to substantial State and Local licensing and permitting.

Journal – I wrote Congressman Adam Schiff about this: http://christopher-king.blogspot.com/2010/12/king…

    Their last excuse?

I can't prove Kelly knows about it. Too bad I served her at her house and the newspapers noted that I was trying to film her and ask her a question when I was kicked out of three (3) such events.
