Fashion Startup Zoora Opens Its Cute, Quirky, and Elegant Closet to All

January 30, 2012

Zoora launch

After months of a closed beta, fashion startup Zoora is stepping out onto the runway and launching in public beta today.

Zoora, which we covered previously, helps women find unique styles tailored to their body and customized with colors, fabrics, hemlines, or detailing.

Since the beta began, Zoora has tweaked their buying experience to cater to female shoppers, adding swatches and a better zoom, more consistent prices, more customization options, and more contemporary pieces. They even planned a “traveling trunk show” that will visit 5 cities in February to show off their samples.

The Zoora team, looking stylish

According to cofounder Aubrie Pagano, designers have been more enthusiastic than expected – that is, after they overcame their initial skepticism about customized clothing. With Zoora, they have an alternative – possibly more creative and more fulfilling – to selling wholesale.

Pagano’s favorite part of the experience has been forming a team (pictured right):

“Personally, it has been so fulfilling to build a passionate team and momentum around an idea. Going from just myself, slaving at night while still working full-time, to now hanging out with six other Zoorazzis has been such magic… and the clothes. Gosh who wouldn’t love reading about and seeing wearable art all day?!”

In the process, Pagano has also learned a thing or two about upcoming spring fashions. Look for bright pastels and nude colors, she says, as well as adornments like mesh, chiffon, and sparkles.

I’ve seen a bunch of customized-fashion startups over in Asia, such as Made to Fit Me and United Styles, so keep an eye on Zoora to see how they compete.
